Cosmetology
Career/Certificate Program
Student Success Story
What Will I Learn?
You’ll train in our new state-of-the-art facility where you will develop the cosmetology skills and knowledge for a rewarding career in hair and beauty. Our faculty is committed to serving students from diverse backgrounds and abilities on a non-discriminatory basis. We strive to provide an improved quality of life for all through flexible learning opportunities, personal development and technological specialization.
This 1-year hands-on program is carefully constructed to prepare you with the recognized skill standards for the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering licensure examination.
What Can I Earn?
The median salary range for cosmetology graduates is currently $35,000–$39,000 per year in Alabama (ZipRecruiter). Estheticians (skincare, waxing, medspa-adjacent) enjoy an average salary of $52,900 per year, where $22–$25/hr is typical.
Cosmetology income varies more than most fields because:
- Tips + commission can double base pay
- Many are self-employed or booth renters
- Early career earnings are often much lower than later years
Career Opportunities & Job Outlook
Graduates of the Cosmetology program will be prepared, when licensed, for entry-level careers including:
- Hair Stylist
- Esthetician
- Makeup Technician

- Chemical Technician
- Nail Specialist
- Manicurist

- Receptionist
Other career paths through further education in the cosmetology field include beauty consultant for publishing, salon owner, and educational specialist or platform artist.
