Commercial Truck Driving

Reid State’s 8-week Commercial Truck Driving program provides hands-on training to prepare you for your Class A CDL and a career in the trucking industry.

To enroll in Reid State’s Commercial Truck Driving program, students must complete the following requirements:

1. Complete the Reid State Application for Admission
2. Must be 18 years of age or older
3. Provide a copy of your valid State Driver’s License
4. Provide a copy of your CDL Class A Learner’s Permit
5. Provide a Current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
   • Must be obtained within 30 days before the start date of class
   • To obtain your MVR, visit the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency website
   • Cost is approximately $6 and must be paid directly by debit or credit card
6. Provide a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical
7. Provide a Current Drug Screening
   • Full Blood Panel Screening required
   • Must be obtained within 30 days before the start date of class
8. Provide TABE Scores
   • Obtain TABE scores from your test provider
   • Adult Education Enrollment / TABE Testing

Important: All checklist items and financial assistance must be submitted two weeks prior to the class start date.

The Commercial Truck Driving program is offered at Reid State’s Evergreen and Monroeville locations.

Commercial truck drivers are in high demand across Alabama. More than 42,000 heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers are employed in the state, with a median salary of $49,184. Alabama also averages approximately 1,338 job postings each month for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers. (ACCS Innovation Center)

Commercial truck driving can provide a direct path to a well-paying career without requiring a degree.

Third-party CDL testing is available at Reid State’s Evergreen Main Campus and Monroeville Commercial Truck Driving Site. Individuals who need to schedule a CDL exam must contact the appropriate Reid State Third-Party Examiner.
